World Bank To Collaborate NYSC On Corps Empowerment – The World Bank has expressed its willingness to collaborate with the National Youth Service Corps on youth empowerment, employment creation, and skill development for Corps Members.
Elena Glinskaya, the World Bank’s Lead Economist for Youth Employment and Skills Development, made the announcement today during a formal visit to the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
The World Bank team head, who praised the National Youth Service Corps for incorporating Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development into the Orientation Course program, added that vocational training in camp has assisted numerous Corps Members in becoming self-sufficient.
She stated that the team was also eager to benefit from NYSC’s extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of youth empowerment. Anyone working on youth employment problems in Nigeria should be aware of the NYSC program.
This is a well-established initiative that has aided youths, and we want to learn everything we can about your program,’ she said.
Brigadier General YD Ahmed, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, stated in his answer that the Scheme was created to promote national unity and integration.
Ahmed also stated that since 2012, the Scheme has been at the vanguard of empowering Corps Members with vocational skills while at the Orientation Camp, resulting in thousands of Ex-Corps Members becoming self-sufficient in various professions.
He told the World Bank team that one of his five-point policy thrust is to advance the Scheme’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program. He reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to fostering self-reliance among Corps Members.
The Director General also praised the World Bank for its generous help.
